The UAE’s clean energy giant, Masdar, and Africa’s leading renewable energy company, Infinity Power, have officially signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to supply renewable energy from a groundbreaking onshore wind project located in Ras Ghareb, Gulf of Suez.

Once completed, the wind farm will boast a capacity of 200MW, generating an estimated 810,000MWh annually. This project is expected to significantly contribute to Egypt’s sustainability goals by reducing approximately 403,672 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

This venture represents another strategic step in expanding Infinity Power’s renewable energy portfolio. As the largest African renewable energy firm, Infinity Power aims to have 10GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2030. This ambitious goal will provide electricity to 12 million homes across Africa by the end of the decade and could lead to a further reduction of 15 to 20 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The official signing ceremony took place at the Egyptian Cabinet in Al-Alamein City and was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including H.E. Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, and H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, COP28 President, and Chairman of Masdar. The agreements were signed by Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, Eng. Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, Salah Ezzat, Acting Chairman of EETC, and Dr. Mohamed El-Khayat, CEO of NREA.

Other notable attendees included Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Kamal Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Sabah Mashali, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy, Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, Hisham El Gamal, Director of Government Affairs, Infinity Power, Mokhtar AbulAta, Director of North Africa, Infinity Power, and Nourhan Ghareeb, Head of Legal, Infinity Power.

This landmark project marks a significant milestone in Egypt’s renewable energy landscape, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainable development and its position as a regional leader in clean energy.
