Prof. Frank Dinter has a rich background in solar energy and engineering, beginning with his diploma work at Plataforma Solar de Almeria, Spain, in 1986/87 and completing his PhD on Thermal Energy Storage Systems for CSP plants in 1992. He has experience in the utility sector in Germany, including as Head of Research & Development at a German utility, focusing on the optimization of fossil-fired power stations. In 2008, he pivoted back to solar energy with RWE Innogy as Head of Solar, overseeing 25 PV plants in Germany and Spain and serving as the technical director of the Andasol 3 CSP plant. Between 2013 and 2017, he led the Solar Thermal Energy Research Group (STERG) at Stellenbosch University as the Eskom Chair in CSP. Since July 2017, Dinter has been with Fraunhofer Chile Research, serving as the Director of the Center of Solar Energy Technologies (FCR-CSET) since February 2018.
