EN-I Hrvatska, a subsidiary of Slovenia’s GEN-I Group, has integrated the Senj wind farm, the largest in Croatia, into its virtual power plant (VPP). The wind farm, with a capacity of 156 MW, received a license to switch from trial to regular production last month and joined the VPP in late September. This move marks GEN-I as one of the largest aggregators in Croatia, providing system services to the national transmission system operator, Hrvatski Operator Prijenosnog Sustava (HOPS).
The Senj wind farm, owned by Energija Projekt and majority-backed by China’s Norinco International Cooperation, benefits from a power purchase agreement (PPA) and a flexibility agreement with GEN-I Group. The PPA secures market access and offers stable pricing periods, minimizing financial risks from energy price fluctuations, while also including the purchase of guarantees of origin.
GEN-I’s virtual power plant, operational since 2015, now manages over 100 generating units across five countries, playing a crucial role in maintaining the stability of electricity grids. The advanced system integrates dispersed energy sources, users, and storage into a common platform, adapting in real-time to the needs of the electricity distribution network.
Through this collaboration, GEN-I continues to contribute to Croatia’s renewable energy future, supporting both energy producers and the national grid.
