Ana Fabres, Glencore's People and Social Responsibility Manager at the Altonorte Metallurgical Complex, has been recognized as one of the "Top 100 Inspiring Women in Mining" in the Executive category by Women in Mining (WIM) Chile. Her dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within the company has significantly impacted Altonorte's internal culture.
In an interview, Fabres emphasized the importance of women in mining, highlighting that WIM's recognition reflects the positive strides being made in the industry. She noted Altonorte’s promotion of diversity by encouraging women to actively participate in WIM and contributing to ongoing discussions to make mining more inclusive.
Fabres discussed initiatives at Altonorte that support female integration, such as creating a respectful work environment, improving infrastructure, and promoting their "Speak Openly" program to address discrimination and harassment issues.
Reflecting on the industry's progress, she shared that participation of women in mining has grown from 8.4% in 2018 to 18% in recent years, though she emphasized the need for continued efforts. Lastly, Fabres advised women considering a mining career to be fearless, believe in their abilities, and recognize the industry's need for diverse perspectives.
