Chile's Leap Towards Sustainable Energy: Launching Latin America's Largest Energy Storage Facility
Chile has launched Latin America's largest energy storage facility, the Gran Teno photovoltaic plant in the Maule region, which features 367,200 solar panels and a capacity of 241 megawatts. This facility can power around 136,000 homes and is expected to prevent the emission of over 147,000 tons of CO2 annually, significantly advancing Chile's decarbonization goals. Developed by Grenergy Renovables with an investment of over $700 million, this project exemplifies effective collaboration between the government and private sectors, accelerating Chile's renewable energy initiatives. The Gran Teno plant not only boosts Chile's green energy output but also supports economic development in the Maule region, showcasing Chile's commitment to sustainable development and positioning it as a leader in global renewable energy efforts.
