Energy major bp, in collaboration with a consortium comprising renewable energy and utility companies Masdar, Hassan Allam Utilities, and Infinity Power, has signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to advance a groundbreaking green hydrogen project in Egypt. The multi-phase project, spearheaded by bp, aims to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives at scale, marking a significant milestone in Egypt’s energy transition journey.

Highlighting the significance of this partnership, Nader Zaki, bp’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, stated, "The diverse experiences of partners in energy projects present a great opportunity for regional cooperation and accessing global markets, fundamentally supporting Egypt's energy transition plans.

Additionally, the consortium has signed a Framework Agreement with the Egyptian government to perform extensive studies on the technical and commercial feasibility of the project. This effort is in line with Egypt's strategic objective to leverage green hydrogen to mitigate the energy export gap and drive the nation towards a sustainable energy future.

Abdelqader El Ramahi, Chief Green Hydrogen Officer at Masdar, emphasized the UAE’s dedication to supporting Egypt’s clean energy goals, saying, "This agreement reinforces Masdar and the UAE's commitment to Egypt to realize its massive clean energy and green hydrogen potential."

The collaboration between bp and the consortium represents a significant step towards realizing Egypt’s green energy potential, promising to position the country as a key player in the global green hydrogen market.
